Hammer Day: July 2009
Written by Jeshii on 2009.07.15 – 22:33 -Hammer Day came and went this month, on the 11th for those who don’t already know. This month was a little different than months previous… less emphasis on who will take up the torch since it seems enough people are participating now. I did miss it, but since today seems to be 兄貴 (aniki)’s birthday or something, there isn’t much on NicoDou that I want to see right now, so I’m playing catch up!
【ニコニコ動画】【初音ミク】終わらないハンマー・タイム【オリジナル】
First place goes to 終わらないハンマー・タイム (“Owaranai Hammer Time”), which is an original 初音ミク song. It’s touching, funny, and surreal… 謎の感動 for sure.
【ニコニコ動画】激突!ハンマー状態なのか?
Here is a crazy hammer Kirby/Touhou megamix.

ハンマーの人二代目 came in 3rd on the ranking this month, but did indeed return.
In fact, most of the generations are back, except 3代目. I wonder what happened?!
More after the jump.

Perfume Confirmed for Kohaku
Written by Jeshii on 2008.11.26 – 06:00 -
YES! The 紅白 (Kouhaku) teams have been announced (in English here), and Perfume has been selected for the Red team!
For those unfamiliar with 紅白歌合戦 (Kouhaku utagassen), it is a yearly show on New Year’s Eve where the red team (mostly female music artists) goes up against the white team (mostly male music artists) to put on the best performance. Really, it is just a giant music show with a meaningless contest, but it is fun nonetheless.
I haven’t rooted for the red team in a long time due to the overabundance of Hello! Project shit that has been clogging it, but with しょこたん performing last year, I had to take pause and think about my priorities. (Speaking of しょこたん, she doesn’t seem to be on the list this year, despite 中日スポーツ quoting her as wanting to go really bad…)
Now, with Perfume on the red team, coupled with the fact that no team has won more than three in a row ever, I’m putting my money on red this time.
But the white team has quite the lineup this year… Mr. Children, Porno Graffiti, EXILE… It’s going to be a good show.

GS Wonderland
Written by Jeshii on 2008.11.14 – 15:00 -
GSワンダーランド (GS Wonderland) comes out today in Japan. I want to see this movie so bad for so many reasons. The retro feel makes me yearn for a simper time when you could wear tights and have girls screaming for you.
Next time I’m in Japan, I’m so buying the DVD. Maybe it’ll show up on mysoju…
Go visit the official site.

The classroom with a pig
Written by Jeshii on 2008.10.29 – 14:28 -
ブタがいた教室 (Buta ga ita Kyoushitsu, I think the official English title is “School Days with a Pig”) is a movie about a class of elementary school kids who raise a pig. The teacher brings it in as a lesson where the kids will eventually eat the pig. BUT, as you can imagine, this pink piggy is so cute that the whole question of whether they should eat it or not comes up. And how does one decide?
This is one thing I think the whole world needs to think about more. I remember the supermarket we had in the rural part of Japan where I used to live had a little progression of picture above most of the meat. There literally was a picture of cute piglets, then of pigs, and then of pork. I remember thinking, “This would never fly in America.” In fact, if I put pictures of cute pigs above the pork in an American supermarket, I’d probably be arrested for being a PETA terrorist or something.
In any case, this looks like a great movie. Probably will make me cry if for nothing else than memories of teaching in Japan. Comes out on November 1st.
