It wouldn't hold up to being "a skit" if they didn't use the stereotypes. That's what comedy is. As Dan Levy writes about Hitler, "The ultimate way to shrink a myth is to make it laughable.” It's not about the "japanese" people in the sketch, it's about race relations. Sensitivities aside, that's why it's funny. There was a recent episode of 30 Rock where Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan's "character" who may as well be him) says he starred in a remake of "An Affair to Remember" called "A Blaffair to Rememblack" Keep in mind...
