More Like The Racist Office…

Written by Jeshii on 2009.01.12 – 23:35 -

I really can’t believe this SNL skit about the “Japanese Office.” My friend sent it to me and I felt this overwhelming uncomfortable feeling while watching it… then I realized that’s because it is racist. And, then at the end, they say it flat out like that’s supposed to make it better. What do you think? Am I overreacting here?

    Maybe over-reacting a little. But yeah, definitely pushing the envelope — at least far enough for for ultra pc white people to cry foul.

    That said, I don’t think many Japanese people would be offended by this.

    Sounds like they are trying to hide it from Japan to me. ;)

    I seems like it is from May, so it should be on other sites, but I’m having no luck finding it ATM. ><;

    It’s too over the top. Plus, they aren’t really in yellow face or anything.

    As Mr. Gervais says, “It’s funny BECAUSE it’s racist.” It wouldn’t hold up to being “a skit” if they didn’t use the stereotypes. That’s what comedy is. As Dan Levy writes about Hitler, “The ultimate way to shrink a myth is to make it laughable.” It’s not about the “japanese” people in the sketch, it’s about race relations. Sensitivities aside, that’s why it’s funny.

    There was a recent episode of 30 Rock where Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan’s “character” who may as well be him) says he starred in a remake of “An Affair to Remember” called “A Blaffair to Rememblack”

    Keep in mind…
    “The ultimate way to shrink a myth is to make it laughable.”
