Otaku My Ride

The first ever 痛Gフェスタ (Ita G Festa) occured over the weekend on the 9th in お台場 (Odaiba). It was a festival where people showed off all sorts of 痛車 (itasha), being cars with マンガ・アニメ・ゲーム (manga-anime-game) themed stickers or paint.
It was put on by the 痛G magazine and well documented in the videos above.
As an avid ニコ動 fan, I recognized way more than I care to admit. I am also blown away by this new 痛車 thing. I mean, we’ve all seen the silly ricers who take themselves seriously with their goofy ass mods. But, there is no semblance of seriousness left. It is frankly… refreshing.
Some of the ニコ動 comments for this video are worried that once the foreign press gets a hold of it, they will be all like “OMG, Japan is like, teh weird.” But I say, let your freak flag fly!

New Perfume Single and Capsule Album!

As we speak, YouTube and ニコ動 are probably taking these down, but the new perfume single, Dream Fighter, AND the new capsule album, More More More!, are both coming out on November 11th! The music video for Dream Fighter is already showing up on the video sites, but it is also being taken down with incredible speed, so if the above videos are broken, give me a line and I’ll try to find some obscure copies. Or, you could just go download Dream Fighter.
Both of these songs took a few listens to get into, but now I have them on constant loop into my brain. I wonder what it is about 中田ヤスタカ (Nakata Yasutaka) music that makes it so addictive. And with both of these coming out, he is apparently keeping busy these days! Keep it up mang!

Yukkiri shiteitte ne, Hatsune Miku!

I saw this on ニコ動 (NicoDou) this morning. I can’t believe how well done it is. The video was done by ピロシキ＋(Piroshiki+). The music is by 今日犬 (Kyouken [?]). Vocals by the lovely 初音ミク (Hatsune Miku).
It’s freaking amazing.

Obama is beautiful world!

Obama wins the election. Thank goodness. I’m very excited to see what he can accomplish.
It is an odd feeling for me. I’m such a Japanophile, that I’ve hardly ever been proud to be American. But today, I feel good about it. It’s a strange, unfamiliar feeling, to be sure. So, I turn to the Japan blog community for reactions…

Lastly, I bought this coffee just in case I had to be bitter about the election. Luckily, I didn’t need to!
Unless you count California (and numerous other states) writing discrimination into their Constitutions. Oh boy. But, what about gay marriage in Japan? According to this site, it is in the constitution that marriage is between a man and a woman and there are currently no laws for civil union cases when both are the same gender.
We still have a ways to go, I guess.
On the plus side, at least California is getting a 新幹線 (shinkansen)!!!

Why I am voting yes on Prop 1A…

Friends, Californians, Countrymen; I am voting yes on State Measure 1A.
Yes, it will take a very long time. This is the reason I want to vote for it now. Think in the long view. If our parents had thought of this, like their Japanese counter parts had (the first 新幹線 (Shinkansen) in Japan was in the 60s!!!), we too would have something to boast about on the world scale. Japan currently sells bullet trains to Taiwan.
I personally see this less as a budget/population issue, and more an issue of dreams… and not short term dreams, but long term dreams. The US is so caught up in instant gratification, I’d be willing to bet this would fail even in good economic times.
The Golden Gate Bridge was another project that people thought would be too much money, or would hurt the local economy due to making unfair competition for the ferries. But, in the end, it became an enduring symbol of our state.
I think this is very much the same thing. Yes, I think it is cool. But, I also think that if we don’t do it now, it may never happen in our lifetime. We are all wired into a survival trip now. I’d be willing to bet many people, not my readers of course, but some people don’t think we’ll be around in 30 years, or our way of life will be vastly different. Hunting and gathering, perhaps. But, then again, Dr. Thompson wrote that line about the survival trip in 1971.
And here we are without flying cars, jet packs, underwater cities, or a stinking bullet train for christ’s sake.

A new Project Shrine Maiden Arrangement CD is out!

The 東方Project (touhou, known as “Project Shrine Maiden”) Arrangement CD has been released by IOSYS! It is called 東方氷雪歌集 (Touhou Hyousetsu Kashuu) The new single is チルノのパーフェクトさんすう教室 (Chiruno no Paafekuto Sansuu Kyoushitsu, “Cirno’s Perfect Math Class”). The flash version can be seen on the special site.
Once again, Miko shows us he awesome vocal skills. I love this song already. Now, if I can just figure out how to order it from the US… Hmmmm…
